ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF GEOPOLITICAL EVENTS ON THE ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY OF THE VESSEL
Abstract
Introduction. The rapid development of the world economy has led to a significant
reduction in the life cycle (LC) of complex technical systems, especially ships in
recent decades. The systematic analysis is used extensively in the theory and practice
of managing a complex, multi-component system, which is a ship nowadays. There
are problems related not only to the properties of the ship’s components, but also to
the laws of the ship as a whole. The model of defining the life cycle cost of vessels is
usually used as the basic one of increasing the efficiency of ship operation. The use
of this model is necessary to solve a wide range of problems. However, due to the
significant duration of the LC, the uncertainty of the model parameters is very high.
It leads to significant errors in calculating the total cost. The introduced article is
devoted to the assessment of the geopolitical events impact on the main operating
model cost (the fuel cost).
The aim of this paper is to analyze the impact of geopolitical events on the main
operating model cost of the vessel LCC – the cost of fuel.
Results. The research highlights the impact of geopolitical events in the world on
the cost of the main operational characteristics of ship life cycle, namely the fuels and
lubricants. The main purpose of impact assessment is to present on the basis of objective
events and information necessary to make an informed decision to conduct an impact
analysis. The impact assessment can be performed with varying degrees of depth and
detail using statistical methods.
Conclusions. The impact of geopolitical events over the past 50 years and the first
three months of 2021 on the price of fuel has been analyzed. It should be noted that this
is the main operational component of the vessel life cycle cost.
